How to Apply – NHS Lothian Careers

NHS Lothian provide a Generic Recruitment process, no need for multiple applications or interviews. We accept one application, you will have one interview and there will be one decision, with your skills, experience and choice being matched to one of our vacancies.

We are looking for passionate, enthusiastic, and motivated individuals who put patients first and who will work within our values. By joining our friendly and supportive teams, NHS Lothian will provide you with the opportunity to gain a wide range of transferrable skills and experience.

Adults with Complex and Exceptional Needs Service (ACENS)

Pan Lothian

Exciting opportunities are available to join ACENS (Adults with Complex and Exceptional Needs Service) , a Pan Lothian Service caring for patients who require 1:1 intensive care in their own homes across NHS Lothian. We have Band 5 positions available for Registered Nurses and we are looking for passionate, caring, motivated people to join our highly skilled nursing teams.

We offer the opportunity to work with talented teams within multidisciplinary environments and impact positively on the lives of thousands of patients and their families.

About the Role

ACENS is a nurse-led service that provides care to individuals with complex, exceptional, and often technology-dependent needs (e.g., mechanical ventilation) within their own home environment. The care needs of the patient group demand a knowledge and a skill set which is patient and speciality specific.

The postholder will deliver person-centred, intensive 1:1 care, supporting individuals to live safely at home, maintain independence, and experience care that is compassionate, respectful and tailored to their needs.

Theres no places like home - healthcare

We are looking for Registered nurses who:

Ideally have experience in community, respiratory, critical care or neurological settings (full training will be provided)

Are confident working independently in a patient’s home environment, including the ability to assess and manage risk within a dynamic community setting

Can lead care delivery and support wider team members on shift

Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Demonstrate a commitment to safe, effective, and person-centred care

Are accountable for their practice in line with professional and clinical governance standards

Although you will work independently as a lone practitioner, you will be fully supported by a wider multidisciplinary team, including access to experienced nurses, clinical leadership and ongoing professional support at all times.

Please note, all posts are Pan Lothian, with travel required across: Edinburgh, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian.

For more information about ACENS, please contact team manager, Angela Lees, at angela.lees@nhs.scot

Your Application

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application - but your answers must be your own.

Show us the real you: your application should reflect your skills, experience and motivations authentically

Use AI wisely: it's fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don't let it write your answers

Why this matters?

Applications that rely on AI generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you - not an AI tool.

As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected
