The role:
The Corporate Finance Department is split into a number of different areas:- Financial Services, Payroll, Corporate Governance, Capital Planning and Management Accounts.
You will support the financial project lead in maintaining and developing an efficient and effective system of budgetary control, to ensure financial information is processed in accordance with procedures through this role and the coordination of the work of others.
You will help assist in the completion of highly complex enquiries, providing assistance and advice as required and contribute to corporate reporting and also provide strategic and business planning advice.
This will also include assisting in the investigation of highly complex areas of overspend, identifying problems, proposing solutions and facilitating implementation.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- This is a permanent position working 36 hours per week
- These hours will be worked Monday to Friday, 0900 - 1700
- You will be based at Dykebar Hospital, Paisley, PA2 7DE
- We are a remote-friendly employer supporting office and hybrid working. Regular presence at our Dykebar office is a requirement of this role. Located on the outskirts of Paisley, with free parking and easy access to the motorway network, you’ll be part of an inclusive and innovative finance team.
Key responsibilities:
You will be responsible for delivering high-quality financial management, reporting and analytical support to managers and senior stakeholders, ensuring effective budgetary control, financial planning and informed decision-making across the organisation. You will prepare budgets in partnership with managers and senior finance staff in line with organisational policies, procedures and available funding, and will produce and distribute monthly management reports to agreed timescales and levels of detail.
Providing timely and accurate financial information to support operational and strategic decision-making, analysing and reporting on significant variances and trends, and advising managers on appropriate corrective action. Responsibilities will include maintaining and reconciling budgetary control systems to ensure financial integrity, preparing financial reports for joint working with external organisations, and calculating and presenting year-end forecasts in conjunction with budget managers.
You will undertake financial costings associated with service developments and organisational change to ensure affordability and sustainability, while also providing financial and workforce information to support benchmarking, staff governance, workforce planning and performance assessment. You will support short, medium and long-term financial planning processes across departments and the wider organisation and ensure that appropriate funding flows are identified and actioned through effective communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Helping support managers in the delivery of Cost Improvement Programmes and respond to complex financial queries and corporate issues through detailed analysis, interpretation and professional advice. Duties will also include verification of funding availability in relation to vacancy management processes, authorisation of Staff Engagement and Change forms, and acting as a cheque signatory.
You will provide information and advice relating to investment and option appraisal using Cost Benefit Analysis and Discounted Cash Flow techniques, contributing to informed decision-making and ensuring that the financial implications of proposals are fully understood. You will contribute to the preparation of Statutory Annual Accounts and Scottish Health Cost Book submissions and will deliver budget training sessions for non-financial managers. Responsibilities will also include preparing responses to Freedom of Information requests in line with legislation.
In addition, you will lead on the design and ongoing development of reporting solutions for complex financial data, establishing standardised approaches across Management Accounts and the wider organisation. You will develop innovative BOXi reporting solutions that provide user-friendly, multidimensional financial analysis and reporting to support organisational performance and decision-making.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Post Graduate Diploma level qualification or equivalent experience required
- Significant experience within the NHS or a similarly large complex organisation
- Ability to effectively plan, prioritise and manage workload while supervising a team to deliver key objectives
- Competent in financial management information, financial reporting, governance arrangements, budget setting and budgetary control processes
- Ability to advise finance and non-finance managers, providing detailed guidance and support
- Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office and specialist financial systems knowledge
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff at all levels within and outwith the NHS
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving and change management skills
