The role:
You will lead, coordinate and develop the Acute Management Accounting team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality, efficient and effective management accounting service across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Acute Services. You will be responsible for managing, maintaining and developing robust systems of budgetary control and for providing comprehensive financial management, reporting and analytical support to budget managers to support informed operational and strategic decision-making.
You will support the management of the Women’s and Children’s revenue budget of approximately £337m and financial oversight of an establishment of around 22,441 WTE staff.
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- This is a permanent post working full-time hours (36)
- These hours will be worked Monday to Friday
- This post will be based at Dykebar Hospital, which is located on the outskirts of Paisley and benefits from free on-site parking.
- We are a remote-friendly employer and support both office-based and hybrid working; however, regular on-site attendance at our Dykebar office is a requirement of this role.
Key responsibilities:
You will lead, manage, motivate, co-ordinate and develop the Management Accounting team, ensuring the delivery of a high-quality financial management service that operates to the highest professional standards across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
You will provide accurate and timely financial information to budget holders to support effective financial control, informed decision-making and achievement of financial targets, developing and maintaining robust methods of budget analysis and costing to ensure consistency, affordability and value for money across services. The role will involve developing systems of budget management that enhance reporting and forecasting capabilities for managers and preparing financial forecasts that support the wider financial planning processes of NHS GGC.
You will support and advise managers in identifying and managing Cost Improvements and Cost Pressures to ensure appropriate resource allocation and financial sustainability. In addition, you will provide training and expert advice on budgetary management and financial procedures to budget managers and other staff, supporting the development of financial awareness and governance across the organisation.
While working closely with budget managers to support the implementation of strategic service change and will liaise regularly with the Head of Management Accounts and Head of Finance to ensure financial implications are understood and effectively managed. The role also requires you to provide financial support and advice to budget managers on an area-wide basis while ensuring full compliance with Standing Financial Instructions and financial operating procedures to maintain effective systems of internal financial control.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Professional accountancy qualification or equivalent experience
- Significant experience in the finance department of a large complex organisation
- Ability to effectively plan, prioritise and manage own workload and supervise a team to ensure key deliverables
- Competent in the management of financial information, financial reporting, governance arrangements, budget setting processes and budgetary control processes
- Ability to advise finance and non-finance managers on matters relating to their own area, providing detailed guidance and support
- Excellent IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and specialist financial computer systems
- Supervisory skills
- Ability to engage diplomatically and effectively with a wide range of staff at all levels, both within and outside the NHS
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including good presentation skills
- Strong problem-solving and change management skills
