Job Advert

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for this Permanent Full-time post in the Department of Clinical & Counselling Psychology to provide a specialist clinical psychology service to our adult population (aged 18-65) living in the Moray area. The post holder will have a HCPC recognised post-grad (Doctorate) qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, hold HCPC Registration as a registered Clinical or Counselling Psychologist, and have suitable experience in Adult Mental Health services preferably within the NHS. In addition to general AMH Psychology service delivery, this post will have some dedicated time for in-patient services and the post holder will receive support & supervision for the latter from a psychologist working in in-patient services in Aberdeen. Experience with severe and enduring clinical presentations and in-patient settings is essential.

The post holder will deliver services as part of a multi-disciplinary Community Mental Health Team, alongside a senior psychologist. Some out-patients are seen on-line, but service delivery will also include face-to-face appointments. We are currently working according to a hybrid delivery model; working certain days from home, and other days from Pluscarden Clinic in Elgin. The post holder will also be involved in developing psychological interventions in an in-patient setting.

Generally, psychologists provide assessment and treatment for patients with a wide range of mental health problems; including individual and/or group therapeutic intervention, and roles such as consultancy and supervision, audit and research, as well as teaching and training where appropriate. We also offer supervision to clinical psychology trainees on the University of Edinburgh/NHS Scotland Clinical Psychology Training Programme, as well as MSc Trainees on the Stirling/Dundee course in Psychological Therapies in Primary Care. The post holder may also have the opportunity to supervise qualified multidisciplinary CMHT staff delivering psychological therapies.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a friendly and supportive psychological therapies service. Our current staff comprises of 2 Clinical and 2 Counselling Psychologists, adult psychotherapists and also 2 CBT therapists. The psychologists within our service have a range of clinical interests reflecting a variety of theoretical and therapeutic orientations, and we would welcome evidence based yet innovative approaches to complement the existing service. We put great emphasis on relevant supervision, support and continued professional development. You will therefore have access to supervision from experienced clinicians; covering areas such as complex trauma and other severe and enduring presentations.

This is an exciting time with significant investment in Mental Health & Wellbeing in Moray with increasing access to psychological therapies in primary care and the psychological therapies service will remain involved with professional guidance & supervision to psychological therapists employed in Primary Care. Not only do we maintain links with our primary care colleagues, but also with our colleagues in Older Adult, Learning Disability, Drug and Alcohol and Child and Adolescent services in Elgin, as well as our counterpart colleagues in Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire through a variety of professional psychological structures.

Moray lies in the north-east of Scotland, with coastline on the Moray Firth, and borders the areas of Aberdeenshire and Highland. Situated in Scotland’s Castle and Whisky county, the area offers a wide range of recreational activities such as golf, fishing, hill walking, surfing, canoeing, cycling, horse riding and winter sports. This is an opportunity to live and work in a beautiful part of Scotland that offers a great quality of life and has good transport links with the rest of the UK.

Interview expenses are available to all candidates and an attractive relocation allowance of up to £8,000 is available to the successful candidate.

Interviews will take place on 22 July 2026
