Locum Consultant Surgeon in Trauma and Orthopaedics

NHS Lanarkshire - University Hospital Wishaw

NHS Lanarkshire is seeking to appoint a Locum Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Upper Limb to join our Trauma and Orthopaedic Service based primarily at University Hospital Wishaw, with cross-site working as required. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking and evolving service delivering high-quality care across both elective and trauma pathways. The successful candidate will provide specialist upper limb orthopaedic care, including shoulder, elbow and hand surgery, alongside contributing to outpatient clinics, operative sessions, and the trauma rota.

The post holder will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, supporting safe, effective patient care while contributing to service development, governance, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with ongoing orthopaedic redesign programmes.

Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC, demonstrate relevant upper limb experience alongside a commitment to clinical governance, teamwork, and service improvement. This locum post is offered for 12 months on a full-time basis (10 PAs).

NHS Lanarkshire offers a supportive clinical environment, strong MDT working, and opportunities to shape service delivery and patient pathways within a modern orthopaedic service.

Proposals for additional SPA time from applicants are encouraged. In addition to the 1 PA for Non-DCC/SPA activities, the Board is supportive of applications for additional SPA time from individuals with well-developed ideas for improving services who are able to demonstrate a commitment to quality improvement, patient safety (including human factors training), Medical Education, Research & Development, acting as an Appraiser, etc. Applicants who are able to demonstrate a commitment to any of the above or other areas and wishing to commence on more than 1 PA for SPA duties should discuss proposals with the identified Recruitment Lead and/or Service Manager who will consider the request in line with the successful candidate’s professional and service requirements.
