The roles:
The Diagnostics Directorate is looking for Clerical Officers based primarily at Glasgow Royal Infirmary x-ray department but will be required to cover Glasgow Royal Infirmary, Stobhill ACH & Glasgow Dental Hospital as required, therefore travel across the North Sector may be required in addition to other GGC imaging departments as per service needs.
You will provide an efficient reception and clerical support service within the Radiology Department, performing a range of clerical duties, updating the Radiology computer system (), liaising with patients, medical staff, GPs and other clerical support staff in an efficient and professional manner.
Working Patterns available:
- This post will be based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- This is a part time permanent role for 20 hours per week.
- You will work these hours over Monday to Friday (20hrs per week): The shift pattern will be 5 days per week, Monday to Friday, 4pm to 8pm to meet service requirements, with job share being considered. Ideally, the post would be 5 evenings per week (Monday to Friday) but we are open to attracting the ideal candidate should fewer evenings/ job share be preferable. Should your circumstances require a job share, please advise what days would be preferable on your application.
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
This role involves responsibility for the opening and closing of reception areas and departments as appropriate, while acting as the first point of contact for both external and internal customers within the department.
You will register confidential patient data on RIS and update patient demographics efficiently and accurately. Full use of a range of patient information systems will be required to maintain and update patient demographics, appointments, waiting lists and patient tracking information, ensuring a complete audit trail is available for reports and films.
The role also involves coordinating CRIS (Clinical Radiology Information System) diaries alongside available Radiologist and Radiographer sessions following distribution of the weekly rota, ensuring all sessions are utilised effectively and National Waiting Time Guarantees are achieved. In addition, the postholder will coordinate patient appointment letters, ensuring all relevant preparation information, including fasting instructions, is issued in line with NHS Government waiting time regulations.
Communication with patients regarding changed or cancelled appointments, often at short notice, will form a key part of the role, alongside arranging patient transport and interpreting services in accordance with local protocols. The postholder will communicate with patients both face to face and over the telephone, responding to concerns relating to appointments, cancellations, waiting list times and examination preparations in a sympathetic, professional and diplomatic manner to provide reassurance and support.

From 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours. Part-time working hours will be reduced on a pro-rata basis. A corresponding increase in the hourly rate will apply, ensuring that overall pay remains unchanged.
