The role:
As a Staff Nurse within NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, you will play a vital role in delivering high quality, compassionate care within the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery team at the Institute of Neurological Sciences. Working in a fast-paced and rewarding acute surgical environment, you will assess patient needs, plan and deliver care, and contribute to positive patient outcomes. You will be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team within one of the UK’s largest NHS organisations, committed to continuous improvement and excellence. All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- You will be based between Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Full Time, Permanent
- Working between Monday and Sunday with flexibility required due to early/late nights and weekends/on call
Key responsibilities:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised programmes of patient care to ensure high standards are consistently achieved
- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and the multidisciplinary team to support safe and patient-centred care
- Take charge of the department in the absence of senior staff, ensuring smooth daily operations and effective staff deployment
- Support complex discharge planning to ensure continuity of care from hospital to community settings
- Supervise mentor and support junior staff and students to promote a positive learning environment
- Maintain accurate patient records and comply with all policies, procedures, and professional standards
- Manage resources effectively, including stock control, equipment, and safe use of clinical environments
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
- Relevant post-registration clinical experience within an acute or surgical setting
- Evidence of ongoing professional development and commitment to lifelong learning
- Ability to demonstrate sound clinical judgement and decision-making in a busy environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to support patients and families in challenging situations
- Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment
- Ability to supervise, support, and develop less experienced staff and students
