Combined Locum Appointment for Service (LAS) and Clinical Teaching Fellow
LAURISTON BUILDING

Reference - 247533

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full (40 hours per week) post based in Lauriston Building.

Applications are invited for a 6 month fixed term post, covering a trainee maternity leave vacancy.

This new combined post is jointly funded by the Dermatology Service and the Medical Education Directorate and is designed for a doctor looking to gain further experience and potentially a career in dermatology. The successful candidate will spend 50% of their time as a teaching fellow in dermatology, and 50% of their time delivering clinical activity as a dermatology LAS. The successful applicant will also be encouraged to undertake audit and research projects.

You will work within the dermatology team providing comprehensive care to adults and children in predominantly outpatient but also some inpatient settings. You will join a team of around 5 dermatology resident doctors in a supportive and supervised environment. In time, you will be expected to participate in the registrar on-call rota which involves evenings and weekends. The post will be based in the Department of Dermatology at the Lauriston Building, Edinburgh.

In addition to clinical work, this role will include 50% dedicated sessions in Medical Education, working within a supportive team led by Dr Nicola Salmon, Consultant Dermatologist and Undergraduate Module Lead. You will take a role in the development and implementation of medical teaching for medical students. This will include small group tutorials and clinical teaching sessions, in addition to developing resources to improve the student experience and increase capacity in the service. There are strong links with the wider Medical Education Directorate and you will be encouraged to collaborate on projects that impact on the delivery and development of safe, effective, and person-centred clinical care.
