The role:

An exciting supervisory opportunity has arisen within the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Patient Catering team. The post holder will support the provision of quality patient care within the QEUH/RHC in the delivery of Patient Catering Services. The post requires a dynamic, forward thinking individual who possesses excellent communication skills, is conversant with IT applications including Menu pick and all Microsoft packages. In addition the post holder must demonstrate an ability to engage with staff effectively and to consistently produce high quality standards of work, be highly adaptable and have an ability to prioritise workloads within a pressurised environment and have good customer care skills.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital

  • Part-time position (15.48 hours per week)

  • Permanent Contract

  • The shift pattern is Monday – Sunday, working 5 days over 7 covering various shift patterns (this will be explained at interview)

Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key responsibilities:

The post will include the following responsibilities:

Staff Supervision and dealing with challenging situations, Staff Training/ TURAS reviews, management of leave requests and rotas, completion of audits in relation to the service provision and Food Safety (HACCP) requirements, Full compliance with all required legislation, policies, procedures and regulations, Departmental Audits of kitchens, dealing with patient complaints

The post holder requires to have a robust knowledge of Food Safety and will need certified in Intermediate Food Hygiene. In addition they will require to have knowledge and experience in Health & Safety, Infection Control, COSHH, Lifting & handling and the use of all machinery required to be used in the provision of the Patient Catering Service

  • Manage the delivery of the range of Facilities services ensuring consistent high quality provision
  • Manage and direct Facilities Assistants making regular visits to premises throughout their area of responsibility - including all wards/departments within the whole site and all areas out with the main Adult and Children's Hospitals
  • Training of Facilities staff on range of food quality initiatives and hygiene practices
  • Undertake TURAS and PDP reviews with staff and maintain records and online system
  • Maintain a high profile presence acting as the primary Facilities Supervisory interface within designated area on a day to day basis with Facilities colleagues, clinical staff, patients and visitors.
  • Interfacing with patients, acting upon comments shared in relation to service delivery in order to continuously improve patient satisfaction levels and maintain the highest quality of service delivery
  • Assist in the management of an effective complaints process in line with the Board's Complain Polices)
  • Ensure services provision compliance with all statutory & legislative standards and local & national policy, protocol and procedure - e.g. Catering related hygiene standards, HACCP, National Cleaning standards, local Infection Control Guidance etc

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Knowledge - HNC or equivalent qualification including 3yrs experience of working in a Facilities role
  • Knowledge of all aspects of Facilities Services with particular focus on catering services as in job purpose (Induction Training provided)
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety (training provided e.g. Working Safely
  • Knowledge of C.O.S,H.H. (training provided)
  • Knowledge of Lifting and Handling (training provided)
  • Knowledge of Infection Control practices (training provided)·
  • Knowledge of Food Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of appropriate Quality Standards
  • Knowledge of Continuous improvement
  • Knowledge and awareness of HR policies and procedures
  • Training in the use of all machinery used (training provided)
  • Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate (training provided)
