Caithness or Inverness Based
The preferred base for this post is Caithness, delivering clinical services in Dunbar Hospital, Thurso and Wick Medical Centre; however, applications are also welcomed from candidates wishing to be based in Inverness and provide outreach clinics to Caithness.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Podiatrist to join our North Highland Podiatry Service. This post is also ideal for recent graduates who are eager to develop and expand their clinical skills within a highly supportive environment.
Exceptional Mentorship & Clinical Development
This role offers a significant period of structured mentorship, providing hands‑on experience in advanced clinical techniques beyond those typically encountered during undergraduate training. Depending on service needs, this may include:
- Nail surgery with extensive supervised practice
- Posterior tibial nerve blocks
- Deep enucleation techniques
- Verruca needling and blunt dissection
- MSK podiatry assessment and management
- High‑risk wound care and limb preservation
No previous experience in these areas is required — only a willingness to learn and a commitment to high‑quality patient care.
Essential Qualifications
Applicants must hold:
- A BSc in Podiatric Medicine
- HCPC registration
- Qualification in Local Anaesthesia and nail surgery
An understanding of the philosophy and aims of podiatric care is desirable.
Location & Travel
Your main base would be either Thurso or Wick in Caithness, a beautiful, rural coastal area of the Highlands or Abban Street Clinic in Inverness, the Highland capital. If based in Inverness, the role will involve providing outreach cover to Caithness, approximately a 2 hour 30 minute drive from Inverness. A pool car is available for this purpose.
This post offers the flexibility to be based either in Inverness, benefiting from the amenities and vibrant atmosphere of the Highland capital, or within the slower-paced and scenic communities of Caithness. Regardless of base location, the role provides the opportunity to experience the unique beauty of the North Highlands. Caithness is renowned for its dramatic, unspoilt landscapes, stunning coastline, relaxed pace of life, and access to the Orkney Islands via Scrabster Harbour in Thurso.
What We’re Looking For
You will be able to demonstrate:
- Strong clinical knowledge and sound professional judgement
- Understanding of clinical governance and its practical application
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to prioritise, plan and organise your workload effectively
- A full, current driving licence and access to your own vehicle (pool car available for rural travel)
This is a permanent 36 hour full-time post working as per service requirements

- Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
