Associate Postgraduate Dean for Medical ACT

Hours: 8 hours per week (2 Sessions)

Grade: Consultant

Salary Scale: £111,430 to £148,064 (pro rata)

Duration: 36 Months*

Flexible Location: Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland) is a remote friendly employer supporting office, remote and hybrid working (within the UK). We’re happy to talk about how you want to work.

Who We Are

Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSD Scotland) is the national Health Board with statutory responsibilities to effect sustainable change through workforce development, education and training across the health and social care system in Scotland, while working at UK level with partner organisations.

Do you want to make difference to medical education and training in Scotland? Are you interested in supporting the education of medical undergraduates in Scotland?

This is an opportunity to join the Medical ACT team within PSD Scotland in the role of Associate Postgraduate Dean for Medical ACT. This team oversees, on behalf of PSD Scotland, the distribution of the Scottish Government’s funding for the clinical teaching of medical undergraduates that is delivered within Health Boards by clinicians in hospital and primary care settings. Applications are invited from trained doctors in the Scotland who are in a substantive NHS consultant post or employed currently within a Higher Education Institute in an equivalent relevant role (with recent/current NHS experience).

What you will do

The post holder will join the team that provides leadership and contributes to strategic direction in relation to Medical ACT funding in Scotland. You will take a significant role in the associated processes and committee structures involving both internal stakeholders within PSD Scotland and external stakeholders. Those external stakeholders include those from Health Boards, Medical Schools as well as from Scottish Government.

Applicants must be qualified to MBChB or equivalent and included in the GMC’s General and Specialist Registers. A broad understanding of the GMC and Scotland Deanery quality frameworks together with practical experience of medical education and training in the NHS is required.

* For NHS employees considering this post, please note that appointments will only be considered on a secondment or SLA basis, in the first instance

Closing date: Sunday 14th June 2026

Interview date Friday 3rd July 2026

Committed to equal opportunities.

Please be advised that if you are successful in being offered the role following the recruitment process, you will be expected to attend the office prior to your start date to complete face-to-face pre-employment checks. If you require any adjustments to support this, please let us know.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.
