CLINICAL FELLOW IN OPHTHALMOLOGY

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term (12 months), full time (40 hours per week) post based in Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion
This is an exciting opportunity for a 12-month paediatric ophthalmology fellowship in Scotland’s capital city based at Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion. The post will provide broad experience in all aspects of the management of paediatric ophthalmology including paediatric cataract surgery and retinopathy of prematurity. The successful candidate will work closely with the Edinburgh paediatric ophthalmology team.
The fellow will be expected to already be a competent independent cataract surgeon and have already obtained their CCT (i.e. completed residency). Ideally, they will also have some experience in paediatric surgery and training will be offered in squint surgery, paediatric cataract surgery, general paediatric procedures and ROP.
The post does not have an on-call component, but the fellow would be expected to manage emergency paediatric patients. The post will also have a teaching role, contributing to the post-graduate teaching programme at the Princess Alexandra Eye Pavilion and teaching the specialist trainees. The post holder will be expected to give advice and assistance to members of the junior medical staff in training.
Some parts of the job plan may be flexible and finalised before commencement of employment, after discussion with the successful applicant.

Team Working:
- To work collaboratively with all members of the team
- Adhere to NHS Lothian and departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence
Location:
- It is anticipated the principal base of work will be the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People
- As part of your role, you may be required to work at any of NHS Lothian’s sites
The post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will not be recognised for training.
