🌟 Join Our Team as a Graduate Apprentice in Digital Cyber Security 🌟 
 
NHS Lanarkshire is thrilled to announce an exciting opportunity for a new Graduate Apprentice in Digital Cyber Security, based at our Kirklands Head Office.
 
Band 5 (£34,544 - £43,039) Annex 21 -   As a trainee your pay is determined as a percentage of pay for qualified staff, in accordance with Annex 21 of the Agenda for Change terms and conditions so you will be paid 60% of the salary in year 1. Your salary will be reviewed annually in accordance with the Agenda for Change Terms and Conditions, ensuring fair and structured progression throughout your apprenticeship. 
If successful, you will be appointed on a salary aligned with the Scottish National Living Wage.  
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, you will transition to the appropriate salary scale for the role, reflecting your new qualifications and responsibilities.  
  
 
Key Details:  
Location: Kirklands Head Office, Bothwell
Duration: Fixed term post for 4 years starting from September 2026 for 36 hours each week. 
 Eligibility: Applicants should be aged 16 to 24 years old on 1st of August 2026 (or up to 29 years for applicants who have a disability or those with *care experience) are eligible.  
Must have 4 Highers (or equivalent) qualifications including Maths and an IT related subject at A or B.
English qualification at National 5 level minimum.

What We Offer:  
Training: Gain invaluable on-the-job training to develop a diverse range of IT skills.  
Qualification: Work towards achieving a BSc (hons) in Cyber Security with Glasgow Caledonian University commencing on September 2026.
Support: You will be well supported on this Graduate Apprenticeship Programme with a dedicated workplace buddy, a Job Coach from the in-house Employability Team and regular networking sessions with other apprentices.  
 
 
What We're Looking For:  
Motivated Individuals: Highly motivated and committed individuals eager to join our Graduate Apprenticeship Programme. We are looking for those with the ability to study independently and who are confident with studying and working simultaneously.
Skills: Strong communication, ability to prioritise tasks and work in a fast-paced hands-on environment.  IT knowledge and experience, along with the ability to understand various procedures and processes and follow health and safety guidelines. 
Interest: A particular interest in cyber security, coupled with a positive attitude towards work and professional development.  
 
Duties as an Apprentice Cyber Security Engineer may include:  
- Support the daily operation and monitoring of cyber security systems
- Assist in maintaining key services such as:
- Endpoint protection and EDR/XDR
- Email and web filtering
- Patch and vulnerability management tools
- Security monitoring platforms (e.g. SIEM)
- Encryption and secure remote access solution - Respond to routine security alerts and incidents, escalating where appropriate
- Assist with user account security tasks, including access controls and privilege changes
- Support the patching and updating of systems in line with agreed schedules
- Assist in the documentation of systems, processes, and procedures
- Support audits, compliance checks, and evidence gathering activities
- Contribute to the implementation of security controls and improvements
- Liaise with internal teams and suppliers to support service delivery
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats and follow agreed procedures
