Western General Hospital

Reference - 251458

NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.

To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.

We will fully support disabled candidates, and candidates with long-term conditions or who are neurodivergent by making reasonable adjustments to our recruitment policy and practices.

Applications are welcome for the above fixed term, full time (40 hours per week) post based in the Western General Hospital.

This Clinical Fellow post is based within the Oncology Department and is primarily inpatient based covering wards 3/4/6/11/15 and the Cancer Assessment Unit (CAU). Working with the existing ward-based team (4x FY2, 1x CMT1, 2x GPST, 1x FY1 and 4x ANP) the CF will provide comprehensive care to patients with a wide range of oncological conditions both in elective and emergency settings.

In addition, this post has a 10-week placement within the Hospital Palliative Care team. During this time the post holder will work as a core member of the multi-disciplinary, advisory service comprising of three consultants and clinical nurse specialists to provide specialist palliative medicine advice for patients and their families and to support ward staff in the provision of generalist palliative care.

The post would be particularly suitable for someone considering a career in Oncology or Palliative Medicine, and whilst the CF post is primarily based within inpatient setting there would be dedicated time to gain experience in outpatient clinics, radiotherapy and SACT. Included in the post is a minimum of 10% (4hrs per week) development time to participate in audit and quality improvement projects within the Palliative Care Service

These posts are not recognised for training but have been designed in consultation with the Postgraduate Dean in relation to future employment status and eligibility for Core or Specialty training and are built on sound educational governance principles.
