An exciting opportunity has arisen for Staff Nurses to join the School Immunisation Team.
You will be an experienced NMC-registered nurse on Part 1 of the NMC register, ideally with experience in immunising children and young people. You will have an interest in public health and be motivated to work as part of a small, skill-mix team. Delivering high-quality, patient-centred care is central to our service. The role will primarily involve community-based work, including delivery of immunisations in schools and other community settings for children and young people. On occasion, you may also be required to support immunisation delivery for babies and infants as part of the pre-school team. Excellent communication skills and confidence using IT will be essential. Full training will be provided.

There are a number of posts available across the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Board area. While individual posts will be predominantly aligned to specific localities, all posts are employed on a GGC Board-wide basis. As such, cross-boundary working across the teams will be required at times to support service delivery.
The post is contracted over 12 months with annualised working terms and conditions. The working period of this post runs for 8 months from August to April with a non-working period of 4 months from April to August
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based to the four school immunisation service areas and the post-holder will be expected to be flexible to support delivery across the teams below:
- Renfrew and Inverclyde Team
- East Renfrewshire and South Glasgow Team
- North West Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire Team
- North East and East Dumbartonshire
- Full-time (36 hours per week) and Part-time (18.72 hours per week) available.
- Shift pattern for this post are various hours available across Mon-Fri from 0830-1630.
Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.
Key responsibilities:
The post holder is responsible and accountable for assessing, planning and delivering immunisation programmes as directed by the immunisation lead nurse (schools).
School immunisation programmes are determined by national policy.
The post holder will:
- Be familiar with and ensure implementation of local, regional and national policies, procedures and guidelines pertinent to immunisation in the pursuit of the highest standard of care.
- Provide clinical leadership and be a role model for junior members of the team by representing the values and beliefs of the nursing profession as well as that of the organisation.
- Be responsible for the day-to-day management of their own workload as delegated by the school immunisation team lead.
- Participate in systems of practice support and personal development plans.
- Attend staff meetings, clinical and mandatory training and record training participation and learning experiences in Knowledge & Skills Framework.
- Participate in systems of practice support and personal development planning in line with the Knowledge & Skills Framework.
- Is responsible for ensuring that they practice within the legal & ethical framework as established by NHSGGC, Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and national legislation to ensure the children, young people and families interests and wellbeing are met.
- Provide information required for the completion of reports to case conferences and the Reporter’s Office as required.
- Participate in any audits relating to clinical placements in partnership with Higher Education Institutions and implement any changes as required, working in collaboration with the Board’s Practice Education Facilitators.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential:
- 1st Level Nursing Registration with NMC
- Evidence of continuing professional development, including immunisation
- IT skills
- Leadership skills
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Problem-solving skills
Desirable:
- Experience of working with children, young people and families
- Awareness of national policy and legislation within children’s services
- Awareness of national policy and legislation within children’s services
