Job Advert
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Interventional Cardiology team at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital (GJUNH), one of the largest and most progressive heart and lung centres in Europe. We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Cardiologist with a specialist interest in Interventional Cardiology to contribute to the delivery and future development of a world-class regional and national cardiology service. The successful candidate will join a dynamic multidisciplinary team providing tertiary and quaternary cardiac care to a population of 2.7 million across the West of Scotland.
Based primarily at GJUNH in Clydebank, the post holder will play a key role in delivering a comprehensive interventional cardiology service, including elective and emergency coronary intervention, primary PCI, and participation in the regional 24/7 PPCI rota. The Heart and Lung Centre performs approximately 6,950 catheter laboratory procedures annually, including around 2,800 PCI procedures. The department offers access to state-of-the-art facilities including five cardiac catheterisation laboratories, advanced intracoronary imaging and physiology platforms, rotational atherectomy, intravascular lithotripsy, and a well-established structural heart programme that undertakes 400 TAVI procedures per year and delivers a rapidly expanding TEER service.
The successful applicant will become part of a highly respected consultant team with strong links to cardiothoracic surgery, advanced heart failure, adult congenital heart disease, electrophysiology, imaging and national specialist services. GJUNH has a longstanding reputation for innovation, education and research, providing excellent opportunities for clinical leadership, quality improvement, teaching and participation in nationally and internationally recognised research programmes. Close collaborations with the Universities of Glasgow, Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian and Stirling further support academic development and clinical excellence.
We are looking for candidates with GMC registration, accredited specialist training in cardiology, and demonstrable expertise in interventional cardiology. Applicants should be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of attaining CCT (or equivalent) at the time of interview. The successful candidate will be committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care, supporting education and training, and contributing to clinical governance, service development and innovation.
