This post is suitable for a highly motivated final year specialist registrar, post-CCT surgeon, or equivalent international trainee who wishes to gain advanced experience in complex abdominal wall surgery, open and minimally invasive abdominal wall reconstruction, and robotic hernia surgery. Candidates should have prior experience in open and laparoscopic hernia surgery and should be seeking further specialist training before taking up an independent consultant practice.

Golden Jubilee University National Hospital is one of Scotland’s leading elective surgical centres and has an expanding abdominal wall surgery service with a strong focus on complex hernia management, robotic surgery, multidisciplinary care, research and education.

The successful candidate will gain exposure to a broad range of abdominal wall procedures including open retromuscular repair, Rives-Stoppa repair, transversus abdominis release, peritoneal flap reconstruction, preperitoneal repair, robotic eTEP, robotic TAPP, robotic retromuscular repair, complex ventral and incisional hernia repair, parastomal hernia repair and adjuncts such as Botulinum toxin A injections and abdominal wall ultrasound.

The fellow will participate in specialist abdominal wall clinics, operating lists, MDT discussion, preoperative optimisation pathways, audit, quality improvement, teaching and research.

The post is for a fixed term of 12 months in the first instance, commencing in September 2026. The post is unbanded and there are no on-call arrangements. The department would support and guide suitable candidates who wish to work towards European Board of Surgery certification in Abdominal Wall Surgery.
