The Role

This an exciting opportunity for managerial development or temporary career change on a secondment basis for 1 year.

This Post of Service Manager for Prisoner Healthcare is based at HM Prison Shotts, a Custodial Establishment which accommodates 540 Adult (over 21), Male, Convicted prisoners, all serving Long Term prison sentences, of over 4 years.

The Healthcare function covers a range of healthcare components and the successful candidate will be an On-Site, Full-Time Operational lead for Primary Care Services, Mental Health Services, and Substance Misuse Services as well as having an oversight role co-ordinating the in-reach and provision of Dental, Optical, Podiatry and Physiotherapy Services, and the oversight of Secondary Care arrangements for prisoner patients who require specialist interventions.

The role will involve service development and some change management work, and the post-holder will report to the General Manager for the North HSCP Adult Health Services Unit, where the service is hosted.

The working pattern for this role is Monday to Friday Day Shift, no on call availability is required.

Please note this is a fixed term post for 12 months. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.

In this key role, you will:

  • The role will deliver Operational Management & Leadership across all aspects of the service on behalf of the North Health & Social care Partnership, as well as being the first and most frequent point of contact for our partner agency, The Scottish Prison Service and the Management Team at the prison.
  • Be Educated, Working Towards or Operating at a Masters Degree Level.
  • Lead and provide effective operational management and leadership of a wide but defined range of staff within the Locality and possibly across the Unit, Health & Social Care Partnership and NHS Lanarkshire;
  • Provide management support to challenging clinical areas and attend case conferences and meetings to discuss care packages and complaints.
  • Ensure the development and maintenance of a range of effective communication strategies to support practice and develop working relationships with other service providers.

What You'll Bring:

  • Previous prison healthcare experience would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to support effective negotiation, influencing, involvement and encouragement.
  • Strategic and operational management capabilities.
  • Sound analytical information management/technological/financial management skills.
  • Proven track record of partnership and collaborative working internal and external to the organisation.
  • A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
