The role:

As a Podiatrist within the Rehabilitation Service, you will have a Degree/Diploma in Podiatry and be registered with the HCPC.
The post requires you to be responsible for delivering a service to patients/clients living at home within
the North East and North West Sector area of Glasgow HSCP. This will include inter-disciplinary and professional patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and discharge from care. You will have notable experience with Neurology and/or Care of the Elderly, in an Acute and/or community setting.

You may be involved in the supervision of support workers and students.

A car driver is essential.

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Podiatrist to work within the North West and North East Rehabilitation Service. The post holder will have an excellent opportunity to work within a dynamic multi-disciplinary team providing assessment, treatment, and intervention to older people and disabled adults with multiple pathologies. The aims of the service include, promotion of independence, self management, admission avoidance and supporting hospital discharge. These duties are fulfilled in service users own homes and communities enhancing ability to maximise independence and deliver person centred care. The post holder will independently manage a complex clinical caseload within the service, applying specialist knowledge and skills relating to their podiatry professional role as well as working as an effective and efficient partner in the interdisciplinary team.
Other duties will involve the supervision of support workers and students as well as providing professional podiatry expertise and development in the multidisciplinary team.

You will be an HCPC registered Podiatrist. Experience of being part of a multi disciplinary team and working in the community is desirable along with relevant experience in neurology, older peoples care, or rehabilitation.
This is a community post and you will work in a variety of locations in the North West and North East of Glasgow City, therefore a full driving license is essential.
This post is 2.5 days per base, per week within a 08:30 – 16:15 work pattern. Options of working day patterns can be flexible. Please be in touch to discuss if required.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

    • Location based between Petershill Park Business Centre in North East and Community Centre for Health, Partick in North West.

    • Permanent Contract

    • Full -time position (18.5 hours per week per role in each base and therefore 36 hours in total)

    • This post is 5/7 and includes covering public holidays and weekends.

Key responsibilities:

    • To be professionally and legally accountable and responsible for all aspects of own work including direct and indirect patient care.

    • To assess an individual’s capacity to gain valid consent and have the ability to work within a legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent.

    • Act independently at an advance level to assess, analyse clinical and non-clinical information (i.e. social information) and to provide a comprehensive clinical diagnosis for individual patients, to determine their need for podiatry intervention. This will include patients with rapidly progressing conditions. This will include the use of evidence based assessment tools and outcome measures.

    • Engaging patients in the goal setting process, to formulate treatment goals.

    • Adhere to tissue viability and wound care guidelines.

    • To accept clinical responsibility for the podiatry patient caseload and to organise efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and the use of own and other’s time and skills.

    • To manage the podiatry treatment of adults with a range of conditions and to ensure a high clinical standard of care and support other staff to do likewise.

    • Ensure that a comprehensive in-service podiatry training programme is provided.

    • Actively participate in podiatry and rehabilitation service in-service training programme to promote own personal development and that of staff.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

    • Diploma / Degree in Podiatry

    • HCPC Registration

    • Evidence of relevant post-graduate courses/ CPD

    • Relevant post-graduate experience, and proven clinical expertise including a special interest in the treatment of neurological conditions and elderly conditions

    • Clear vision of role /commitment to speciality

    • Confident/motivated/enthusiastic

    • Proven strong leadership qualities

    • Able to work well with and through others

    • Committed to personal and team development

    • Full driving licence

Desirable:

    • Postgraduate qualification

    • Clinical Educators/supervisors course
