Locum Appointment for Training (LAT) in Ophthalmology

Fixed Term from August 2026 to end February 2027

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde invites applications for the post of Locum Appointment for Training (LAT) in Ophthalmology. The post is Full Time but applications will be considered from those wishing to work less than full time.

All resident doctors in ophthalmology are based at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology at Gartnavel General Hospital. However, the clinical duties of the post may be at various hospitals in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Duties will include participation in specialist and general ophthalmic out-patient clinics, emergency clinics, theatre sessions with the possibility of laser clinics, minor ops, and intravitreal injections dependent on previous experience. The job has an on-call commitment which is currently one in seven.

You will work alongside 35 other trainees on the West of Scotland training rotation. In addition to clinical work, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the Clinical Governance programme within the department and will be encouraged to participate in audit and research. The successful applicant’s timetable and teaching programme will be orientated towards applying to ophthalmic specialist training through the national recruitment programme.
