The Role

As a Senior Management Accountant, you will contribute to the development, implementation and monitoring of Division strategy that will allow it to meet its aims of providing the best possible standard of care. You will advise the Executive Directors, Budget Holders, and other Senior Managers on the implementation of financial strategies and performance required to support this aim. Providing specialist knowledge, expertise and advice in respect of all financial matters.

You will play an active role in the planning, development and maintenance of the Division’s corporate and financial governance systems including overseeing sound systems of financial control. This role will have a specific responsibility for the organisation’s capital strategy, maximising access to funding, ensuring business plans are well evaluated and translate into optimal financial plans, ensuring the strategy is well monitored and adapts to changes and ensuring there are good controls over the organisations £897 million asset base.

You will also have a role in coordinating the organisations financial efficiency plans. All senior management accountants from time to time are expected to contribute to organisation wide projects or financial modelling outwith their specific area of responsibility. The nature of this posts specific responsibilities is such this may happen more frequently.

In this key role, you will:

  • Provide direction and leadership to the fixed asset officer and ensure that the staff are suitably qualified and experienced and are trained, developed and motivated to provide an effective and facilitative service.
  • Provide financial information, analysis and advice to the relevant directors, senior managers, Director of Finance, and a wide range of external bodies both NHS and non NHS.
  • Analyse and interpret data from the Directorate as part of the annual budget review process to support the strategic planning process for the Division. Working with Senior Managers and other relevant Directorate staff to identify key financial pressures, and it’s impact on the Division’s ability to achieve recurring financial balance.
  • In times of service change, provide financial support and guidance to Divisional staff to ensure a robust financial assessment is undertaken to clearly identify all costs and potential future benefits and opportunities which may arise. Ensure these processes are consistent with Divisional financial operating procedures and standing financial instructions, linking to senior NHSL finance staff to ensure consistency with strategic planning objectives.

What You'll Bring:

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Significant financial experience at senior level within a large complex organisation specialising in: Board level financial modelling, scenario planning and analysis presenting monthly and year-end financial position to senior finance and executive level staff members, and forecasting at divisional level for future years financial plans.
  • CCAB, CIMA or overseas equivalent; or evidence of actively studying towards completion of the qualification.
  • Well-developed knowledge of issues affecting the NHS and their impact on financial strategy and management.
