Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (SACCS) Golden University Jubilee National Hospital, Clydebank

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and ambitious doctor to join the Scottish Adult Congenital Cardiac Service (SACCS) as a Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Surgery at the Golden Jubilee University National Hospital, Scotland's National Centre for Advanced Heart and Lung Services. Working within a nationally recognised specialist service, the successful candidate will gain invaluable experience in the assessment, surgical management and long-term care of adults with congenital heart disease, supported by a highly experienced multidisciplinary team.

This post offers a unique opportunity to work alongside congenital cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, intensivists, anaesthetists and specialist nurses within Scotland's only centre providing the full range of specialist adult congenital cardiac services. The fellow will play a key role in the day-to-day management of surgical inpatients, participate in outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary team meetings and dedicated congenital cardiac theatre sessions, while contributing to the delivery of complex surgical care for patients from across Scotland.

Based within NHS Golden Jubilee, the post provides exposure to a broad spectrum of congenital and complex cardiac surgery, including adult congenital procedures, aortopathy surgery, carcinoid heart disease surgery and mechanical circulatory support. The centre performs approximately 1,200 open-heart operations and 1,300 thoracic procedures annually and is home to Scotland's National Advanced Heart Failure Service, cardiac transplantation programme and Scottish Pulmonary Vascular Unit.

The post has a strong educational focus, with each fellow allocated a named Educational Supervisor and encouraged to develop surgical, clinical, audit and research skills. Fellows will have access to regular teaching programmes, multidisciplinary learning opportunities and a dedicated wet-lab facility to support technical development. Active participation in clinical governance, audit projects, mortality and morbidity meetings, and service improvement initiatives is strongly encouraged.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration, have completed Foundation competencies and possess MRCS or equivalent qualifications. Experience in cardiothoracic surgery is desirable, together with experience in intensive care and high dependency care. This post would particularly suit trainees seeking dedicated experience in congenital cardiac surgery, cardiothoracic surgery or advanced surgical fellowship training within a nationally recognised centre of excellence.

The post is available for one year.
