The Information Governance and Security Team is looking to recruit an organised and motivated Assistant Information Governance and Security Officer to support the delivery of Information Governance services across NHS Fife. This is an excellent opportunity to join a knowledgeable and supportive team, working across a varied portfolio that includes data protection, confidentiality, Caldicott, records management, Freedom of Information, information security, information quality and assurance.

The postholder will provide advice, guidance and support to staff across NHS Fife, helping services understand and meet their responsibilities under the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002, Public Records (Scotland) Act 2011, Caldicott Principles, NHS Scotland Information Security requirements and local records management arrangements.

Working as part of the Information Governance and Security Team, you will support day-to-day compliance activity, respond to information governance queries, assist with the review of assurance documentation, contribute to the investigation and recording of information governance incidents and data breaches, and support the development of awareness materials, guidance and training resources.

The role requires someone who can communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of colleagues, including clinical and non-clinical staff, managers and senior leaders. You will need to be methodical, accurate and able to manage competing priorities while working to legislative timescales, service requirements and agreed procedures.

Applicants should have knowledge or awareness of information governance legislation, guidance and procedures, including data protection and confidentiality requirements. You should be educated to an appropriate level or be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge, skills, training and experience appropriate to the role. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, good customer service skills and confidence using Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams are essential.

The successful candidate will be approachable, flexible and able to work both independently and as part of a team. You will be expected to maintain confidentiality, work with sensitive information in a professional manner and contribute to continuous improvement within the service. The post includes a requirement to travel independently between NHS Fife sites to meet the needs of the role.

Informal enquiries: Jennifer Dryburgh, Caldicott & DPA Coordinator via email Jennifer.dryburgh1@nhs.scot in the first instance, or Scott McFarlane, Information Governance & Security Manager via email scott.mcfarlane3@nhs.scot

Proposed interview dates of 30th November 1st and 2nd December.

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here.

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.
