An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Orthotist to join NHS Dumfries & Galloway as our Lead Orthotist. Based at Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary (DGRI), you will provide clinical leadership for the Orthotics Service and play a key role in developing and delivering high-quality, patient-centred care across the region. The Orthotics Service forms part of Acute Therapies and provides specialist assessment, treatment and review for both adults and children with a wide range of orthotic needs. The service is primarily delivered from DGRI, with outreach clinics also provided at Galloway Hospital Stranraer.
The Role
As Lead Orthotist, you will:
- Provide expert clinical assessment, prescription, fitting and review of a broad range of orthotic interventions.
- Lead the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of Orthotic services across NHS Dumfries & Galloway.
- Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and AHP colleagues to ensure integrated patient care.
- Support service redesign, quality improvement initiatives and audit activity.
- Monitor service performance and contribute to achieving key service targets and quality standards.
- Act as a professional resource for orthotic practice across the organisation.
About You
We are looking for an individual who:
- Holds a BSc (Hons) Prosthetics & Orthotics (or equivalent qualification).
- Is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Has substantial post-registration experience within Orthotic practice.
- Demonstrates leadership skills and experience of service development.
- Has excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
- Is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care.
- Can work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
About the Service
The Orthotics Service receives referrals from Consultants, GPs and AHPs and provides specialist assessment, measurement, casting, fitting and review of a wide range of orthotic devices for both adult and paediatric patients. There is also a very high functional Diabetic Foot clinic that the Orthotist attends.The service is delivered mainly through outpatient clinics at DGRI, with additional clinics in Stranraer and community settings as required.
