The role:

East Renfrewshire Mental Health and Recovery Older Adult Team is currently recruiting a Nurse Team Lead to provide professional leadership across the nursing team within the older adult service.

This is a key clinical leadership role, providing professional governance, clinical leadership and oversight of risk management across the team. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and motivated, with strong clinical decision-making and risk assessment skills, and the ability to effectively prioritise needs within a dynamic service environment.

The post carries an explicit expectation of maintaining a direct clinical caseload alongside responsibility for clinical oversight and leadership across the nursing team.

You will be passionate about mental health nursing, with a well-developed understanding of current practice within community mental health settings and current service priorities. You will demonstrate strong leadership skills, alongside a commitment to innovation and continuous service improvement. We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who can inspire and motivate others while also working confidently on their own initiative

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Permanent
  • Full-time post – 36 hours per week.
  • The working pattern is Monday to Friday, 9:00 am–5:00 pm.
  • The post is based within East Renfrewshire HSCP, Mental Health and Recovery Services, Older Adult Community Mental Health Team (OACMHT), with bases at Eastwood Health and Care Centre and Barrhead Health and Care Centre.

Key responsibilities:

You will provide clinical leadership and professional governance across the nursing team, with responsibility for clinical oversight, risk management and effective clinical decision-making within the older adult mental health service.

The role will include managing a direct clinical caseload, undertaking appropriate risk assessments, prioritising clinical needs and supporting the delivery of safe and effective patient care. You will provide leadership, guidance and support to members of the nursing team, contribute to service development and continuous improvement, and promote innovative approaches to practice.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team and wider services to support recovery and improve outcomes for people accessing mental health services within East Renfrewshire.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with current professional registration.
  • Well-developed knowledge and understanding of mental health nursing practice.
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a community mental health setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of clinical risk assessment and risk management.
  • Strong clinical decision-making skills.
  • Understanding of professional governance and clinical leadership.
  • Ability to prioritise clinical needs effectively within a dynamic service environment.
  • Knowledge of current developments and priorities within mental health services.
  • Commitment to continuous service improvement and innovation.
  • Ability to provide effective leadership, support and motivation to members of the nursing team.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and wider service environment.
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred mental health care.
