NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

AI tools like ChatGPT or Copilot can be great for planning and preparing your application—but your answers must be your own.

  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand you—not an AI tool.

Due to the integrated nature of this role, applications are invited only from employees currently working within East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) who have experience of both NHS and Council services. A good working knowledge of the systems, processes and operational practices across both organisations is essential.

The Mental Health Directorate within East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership is looking to recruit a full-time Secretary (36 hours per week, Monday to Friday) to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support across a range of Mental Health services.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy and dynamic service, working alongside multidisciplinary teams to support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care across East Lothian. The successful applicant will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of administrative processes and contributing to a positive patient experience.

Working as part of the wider Mental Health administrative team, the postholder will provide a comprehensive secretarial service to clinicians and other professionals. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will have experience in a secretarial or administrative role and be able to organise and prioritise their workload effectively, often working to tight timescales and managing competing demands. They will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be confident engaging with patients, carers, colleagues and multidisciplinary teams.
