Belford Hospital is a busy remote rural acute hospital in Fort William. Situated at the foot of Ben Nevis, which lies at the heart of the West Highlands of Scotland, is an area of outstanding beauty and wide open spaces. There are opportunities for many winter and summer outdoor pursuits with nearby ski slopes, lochs, rivers and mountains. Fort William is only 100 miles north of Glasgow and 65 miles south of Inverness.
The laboratory provides a haematology, clinical chemistry and blood transfusion service for the hospital along with local GP practices and other local hospitals within Highland. The laboratory has professional links with Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
Applications are invited for the above post from candidates looking to advance their career in a multi-disciplinary environment. You will be lead BMS in haematology, you will be required to rotate through clinical chemistry/blood transfusion sections so some experience in these disciplines would be preferred although not essential, as applications are welcome from those willing to learn and train in those other disciplines.
A trainee post with Annex 21 applied is paid a percentage of the fully qualified rate during the period of training as follows:- Year 1: 60% of the pay band maximum; Year 2: 65% of the pay band maximum, Year 3: 70% of the pay band maximum; Year 4: 75% of the pay band maximum.
The laboratory operates a multi-disciplinary out-of-hours service and you would be required to participate in 1:3 rota. You would also be expected to take a proactive role in service delivery with excellent opportunity for both personal and professional development.
