The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Estates Department to provide Estates Decontamination Engineering services across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde healthcare facilities. The post holder will undertake a range of engineering and maintenance duties, including minor cross-trade skills in electrical and mechanical services, ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of decontamination equipment and facilities. The role supports the delivery of uninterrupted, high-quality patient care through the provision of an effective Estates Service.
The post is offered as Annex 21 and after successful completion of Decontamination Equipment Periodic Testing training and Authorised Person training will be eligible for progression to B6
All roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met. If the preferred candidate is appointed on Annex 21 terms, the role will not be eligible for sponsorship.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, full-time, 36 hours per week
Band 6 / (Annex 21) on satisfactory completion of Decontamination Periodic Testing Certification and Authorised Person training
Base location at Inverclyde TSSU but may require working across other GGC Decontamination sites.
Shift pattern - Rotational; please see below.
Monday – Thursday: 07:00–15:00; Friday: 07:00–13:30
Monday – Thursday: 08:00–16:00; Friday: 08:00–14:30
Monday – Thursday: 12:30–20:30; Friday: 12:30–19:00
Key responsibilities:
- Deliver planned preventative maintenance, repair, and installation services to agreed quality standards and value for money.
- Provide safe and effective maintenance of decontamination plant, equipment, and systems.
- Carry out installation, commissioning, and repair works on critical decontamination equipment.
- Adopt a flexible and integrated approach to service delivery, including the use of cross-trade skills.
- Support the development of a customer-focused Estates service.
- Contribute to maintaining a safe, comfortable, and statutory-compliant healthcare environment.
- Assist in the delivery of reactive maintenance services to minimise disruption to clinical care.
- Support the management and control of Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) through compliance with relevant standards and audits.
- Provide technical advice and specialist guidance for clinical service developments and Estates projects.
- Assist with preparing specifications, tender documentation, contract awards, and project planning activities.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
- Knowledge and experience of Estates engineering services, including decontamination equipment and plant maintenance.
- Competence in a range of minor building and cross-trade skills, including electrical and mechanical services.
- Understanding of planned preventative maintenance programmes and reactive repair services.
- Awareness of statutory compliance requirements and healthcare environmental standards.
- Knowledge of Healthcare Associated Infection (HAI) management and compliance frameworks.
- Ability to provide technical support and contribute to the planning and implementation of Estates and clinical development projects.
- Strong customer service, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexibly as part of a multidisciplinary Estates team in a healthcare environment.
