The role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Engineer - Associate Practitioner (Band 4) within the Department of Clinical Physics and Bio-Engineering, Medical Equipment Management Service. Based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and Princess Royal Maternity Hospital, you will work as part of a team of highly trained clinical engineer technologists responsible for supporting the safe and effective use of medical equipment across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
The Medical Equipment Management Service oversees more than 55,000 medical devices across ten hospital sites and completes over 60,000 maintenance and repair jobs each year. The role offers a varied workload, including responding to equipment faults, commissioning new devices, and carrying out planned maintenance activities.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, full-time, 36 hours per week
Shift Pattern - Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:12 pm with a 30-minute lunch break - 7.2 hours per day
Base location - Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Key responsibilities:
- Support the maintenance and management of medical equipment used throughout NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
- Respond to medical equipment faults and breakdowns in clinical areas.
- Commission and install new medical equipment.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance on medical devices.
- Calibrate and performance-test equipment.
- Carry out repairs on low-risk and non-complex medical equipment.
- Work with clinical staff to ensure equipment remains safe, functional, and available for patient care.
- Maintain accurate records and support the full lifecycle management of medical devices.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
Essential Knowledge and Skills
- Engineering or Technology knowledge equivalent to SCQF Level 8.
- Knowledge of electrical, electronic, and general engineering principles.
- Experience in servicing, repairing, and fault-finding electrical or electronic systems.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- An interest in engineering, technology, and healthcare.
Training Provided
- Competency-based training on a range of low-risk and non-complex medical equipment.
- Training to develop skills in:
- Commissioning equipment
- Calibration
- Performance assurance testing
- Equipment repair and maintenance
