The role:

Our team aseptically prepare over 50,000 injectable medicine doses per year from our large aseptic suite at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. These items include parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy and clinical trials. In addition we have an MHRA specials license to enable batch manufacture of IV products with an extended expiration date.

We are leading the way in aseptic practice through the use of state-of-the-art technology and providing exceptional training to our staff. We currently have a team of 36 staff including Support Workers, Technicians and Pharmacists who take great pride in delivering critical medicines across Greater Glasgow & Clyde. We are looking for 1 new enthusiastic Pharmacy Support Worker to join our team.

This role does not meet the eligibility criteria for a Skilled Worker visa or a Heath and Care Worker visa. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is unable to provide candidates or employees with a Certificate of Sponsorship (COS).

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Royal Hospital for Children
  • Permanent Contract
  • Full-time Position (36 hours per week)
  • Shift pattern for the post are 5 days over 7, 0900-1700 including weekend working on a rota basis

Key responsibilities:

  • Setting up materials and components for aseptic preparation, including batches and individual patient treatments.
  • Assisting with the safe aseptic dispensing of specialized injectable products such as cytotoxic/oncology drugs.
  • Performing routine environmental and physical monitoring, recording cleanroom temperatures, pressures, and microbiological cleanliness.
  • Managing stock control, inventory rotation.
  • Answering of the hatch to Nurses and Doctors from the wards for product handover.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

  • General Education, basic numeracy and literacy skills demonstrated by 3 Standard Grade Qualifications or equivalent (which must include English and Maths) these are essential.
  • An SVQ Pharmacy Level 2 or equivalent is not essential but must be willing to work towards this qualification when in post.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are essential.
