Job Advert
Applications are invited for an Extended Scope Practitioner in Lower GI Endoscopy to join the NHS Highland Endoscopy Service, based at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly skilled practitioner to work at advanced practice level, delivering independent lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, including colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, as part of a high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy service.
The successful candidate will work as an autonomous practitioner, using advanced clinical decision-making and judgement to assess, investigate, diagnose, treat and review patients referred from primary care, surgical, gastroenterology and other clinical pathways. The role will contribute to the delivery of lower GI endoscopy capacity, including bowel screening colonoscopy, cancer tracking, surveillance programmes and colorectal surgical follow-up. The post holder will provide direct patient care at the point of procedure, communicate findings sensitively, offer post-procedural advice and support safe ongoing management and onward referral where required.
The post holder will be part of the wider NHS Highland Endoscopy Service and will work closely with the Senior Nurse Endoscopist, Endoscopy Clinical Lead, colorectal, gastroenterology and surgical teams, nursing colleagues and administrative teams. There may be a requirement to work flexibly across Highland sites to meet service demand and support local access for patients.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute to service development, workforce resilience, training, audit and quality improvement across NHS Highland’s endoscopy services, supporting safe, effective and sustainable care for patients across the Highlands.
