The role:
The Laundry Assistant plays a key role in supporting the objectives of Hillington Central Laundry by providing a cost-effective, efficient, and high-quality linen service across Greater Glasgow & Clyde and Argyll & Bute. The post holder is responsible for operating a range of laundry equipment and machinery safely and efficiently, ensuring all linen is processed and delivered on time and to the highest quality standards. Production targets must be achieved and recorded in line with standard operating procedures, while maintaining a strong focus on health, safety, and staff wellbeing. The role also supports continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality, efficiency, and service delivery.
Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
Permanent, part-time 32 hours per week
Shift pattern: Monday & Tuesday 16:00 - 23:00, Wednesday & Thursday 16:00 - 23:00, Friday 16:00 - 23:00
Base location: Hillington Laundry
Key responsibilities:
- Operate laundry machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Meet and record production targets in line with standard operating procedures.
- Sort, wash, dry, finish, fold, pack, and label linen.
- Monitor equipment performance and resolve minor faults and blockages.
- Prepare and dispatch completed linen orders.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping, cleanliness, and safety.
- Operate cleaning equipment, balers, and scissor lifts.
- Support continuous improvement, quality standards, and efficient service delivery.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:
- Complete a 9 to 12 week induction and training programme on all laundry equipment.
- Working knowledge of laundry machinery and health and safety procedures.
- Attend health and safety, infection control, and quality control training.
- Basic IT skills for operating laundry systems.
- Ability to check and audit own work for quality and accuracy.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to manage assigned tasks in a busy working environment.
- Participate in annual refresher training and competency assessments as required.
