This is an excellent opportunity to work in a state of the art facility within the NHS Fife Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory. Samples of blood, urine and other body fluids are analysed to provide clinical results and interpretive reports to assist in the diagnosis, management and investigation of patients in Fife.
The Clinical Biochemistry department is organised into three distinct functional areas (Core Chemistry, Immunoassay and Special Chemistry) which use a variety of complex analytical methods including fully automated, semi-automated and manual techniques. A pre analytical area and automated Roche Track links directly to COBAS 8000 lines enabling the department to process ~500,000 requests per annum with a yearly increase in workload of approximately 4%.
This post involves rotation through the various sections within the department and the post holder will be will be required, following suitable training, to cover the 24/7 laboratory service. Working hours are 37.5 per week average including evenings, weekends and overnight working when suitably trained. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate team spirit, initiative, flexibility and have the enthusiasm to train further.
Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist applications are invited from suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists preferably with an appropriate IBMS Specialist Portfolio.
Band 5 Trainee Specialist Biomedical Scientist applications are invited ideally from HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who have not yet completed their Specialist Portfolio.
Candidates with Biomedical Science BSc Hons or similar, acceptable to the HCPC for registration training will be considered for this post. Newly graduated candidates, if successful, will be required to complete their Specialist Portfolio prior to progression to Band 6.
The department is UKAS accredited to ISO 15189 and is IBMS approved for Biomedical Scientist training. Active participation in CPD and opportunities for further study are both supported and encouraged.
