NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is the largest Health Board in Scotland delivering acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.2 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

We are seeking to replace this key role in the Diagnostic Services Sector of the Acute Division.

The Chief of Medicine is operationally accountable to the Sector Director with professional accountability to the Deputy Medical Director (Acute).  As a member of the management team you will play an active role in contributing to the strategic director of the Sector, supporting the Director to manage the delivery of a range of high quality, economic, safe, efficient and patient-centred services in compliance with local and national targets.  This will also be outward facing requiring the continued promotion of relationships with our Health and Social Care partners as we evolve integrated pathways of care.

You will provide professional leadership to medical staff within the Sector, promoting a culture of continuous quality improvement and ensuring that individual are clear about their role and responsibilities, that they are appropriately supported and developed and that robust systems are in place to monitor, review and improve clinical performance in line with Professional Standards.

You will play a key role in supporting the Service Director along with the Chief Nurse to develop and deliver the Sector Clinical Governance work plan and service improvement agenda.  In addition you will work corporately with the Deputy Medical Director (Acute) and senior medical colleagues across NHSGGC to ensure consistency, equity and continuity of healthcare across the Board’s services.

The successful candidate will be a Consultant with previous medical management experience, strong influencing and leadership qualities and the ability to inspire the confirmed and respect of colleagues to lead and deliver on key professional and service objectives.

This role carries an annual management fee of £21,200 and a time allowance equivalent to 5 programmed activities, which will be discussed on an individual basis to determine the split between direct clinical care and supporting professional activities.  The successful candidate will require to work in the geographical location to which appointed.
