Job Advert

An exciting opportunity exists for a National Associate Director to support the delivery of the Scottish Government’s National Urgent and Unscheduled Care Portfolio, leading strategic redesign and transformation across health and social care systems in Scotland.

The National Urgent and Unscheduled Care Programme aims to improve staff, patient and carer experience of unscheduled care by working with local staff within NHS Scotland Health Boards and partners across Health and Social Care to build capacity and capability to sustainably improve performance, patient safety and flow through the unscheduled care pathway.

The Portfolio is based on the firm foundations of the 6 Essential Actions Improvement Programme, and is underpinned by four national programmes - Redesign of Urgent Care, Ambulatory Interface Care and Optimising Flow (Discharge without Delay).  This programme of activity has seen NHS Scotland lead the way in unscheduled care performance for more than six years and with further transformation and redesign planned we will require the right candidate for success.

This is a high profile area of work that requires passionate and experienced strategic leaders who will confidently set visions and direction across a whole health and social care system approach to delivery.  If you like a challenge and are committed to delivering innovative and complex programs of transformational change then we want to hear from you.  You will work as part of an expert team and lead in improvement science and service redesign at a national level across Health and Care, bringing knowledge and skills from initiatives across the UK and internationally.

The successful candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to secure strategic, executive, management and clinical engagement to drive safe, effective and person centred improvements in care.  They will be able to demonstrate understanding of unscheduled care; an indepth understanding of improvement methodologies, with recognised expertise in improvement science and its practical application in a range of health and social care settings.  The ability to work within a highly political agenda, manage to deadlines and respond to changing priorities is essential.

Whilst the core work of this role is provided by the Scottish Government, the successful candidates will be employed through the Centre for Sustainable Delivery as part of the Golden Jubilee National Hospital.  Service Level Agreements will be implemented between the Golden Jubilee National Hospital and the Scottish Government.  Therefore the post holder is accountable directly to the Scottish Government for the delivery of their roles and responsibilities.
