Due to retirals and a change in consultant portfolios, the Public Health Department in Fife is looking for a new Consultant in Public Health who will lead on healthcare public health with a focus on reducing the impact of inequalities on the population of Fife. The post will be hosted by NHS Fife, with 0.5 wte committed to local work. This is a joint appointment with 0.5 wte committed within Public Health Scotland, where the postholder will provide clinical and public health leadership in relation to the specific areas of secondary and unscheduled care services to enable policy and strategy creation for the delivery of key public health goals.

You will join the Specialist Public Health Team within NHS Fife, which comprises of the Director of Public Health, Consultants in Public Health, Nurses, Scientists, Programme Managers and administrative staff. We have a strong team of Public Health staff covering all four domains of Public Health Practice (Health Care Public Health, Health Protection/Resilience, Health Improvement and Health Intelligence).  We work with public and third sector partners to improve the life circumstances, health and wellbeing of the population of Fife.

Within Public Health Scotland you will join a team embedded within the NHS, but working closely with Community Planning Partnerships, Local Authority, Integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships, third sector, resilience partnerships, Academic Institutions and others. You will be focussed on transforming Scotland’s public health system, through effective working relationships with stakeholders such as NHS Scotland, Scottish Government and partner organisations.


In addition to core job plan activities, the post holder will also be expected to take part in the NHS Fife Health Protection Out of Hours On-call Rota (currently 1 in 7) on a whole time basis. 
Applications are invited from people who have Specialist Registration in Public Health, either through full GMC registration and inclusion in the GMC Specialist Register (Public Health) or are eligible for such inclusion within six months of the interview date; or are equivalently registered or expect to be included within six months of the interview date as a Generalist Public Health Specialist on the UK Public Health Register (UKPHR). 

The post will report directly to the Director of Public Health in NHS Fife; and to the PHS Head of Clinical and Public Health Intelligence & Research.

The post holder will be a Competent Person under the provision of the Public Health Act (Scotland) 2008. The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme Disclosure Scotland check.

Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
