The National Spinal Injury Unit are looking for enthusiastic and motivated band 5 who wants to make a difference to join our fantastic Rehabilitation team. This will be a rotational post with Philipshill being the base ward. This exciting opportunity will include experience within Edenhall (12 bedded High Dependency) and Neuro Rehabilitation (PDRU). Philipshill is a 36 bedded Rehabilitation ward, within Philipshill there is a 6 bedded Respiratory Care Unit this is used to step down patients from HDU who may be respiratory compromised. The purpose of the ward/department is to provide acute care, long term mechanical ventilation and Rehabilitation for emergency and elective Spinal Cord Injury Patients, and also to provide step down care for patients being transferred immediately from HDU to Rehabilitation. The post holder will have the responsibility for assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care, and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients. The post holder will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to support and guide patients and families through there rehabilitation journey to give them optimum care after sustaining a spinal cord injury. The nurses will work closely with a diverse multi disciplinary team aiming for patient’s to achieve their individual goals from admission to discharge focusing on their individual needs, the post holder will develop skills to support patients and families physically, emotionally and mentally through there rehabilitation journey, this in return gives job satisfaction.
Staff will gain Spinal extended roles with support and guidance such as;
- Male Catherisation
- Insertion of Supra-Pubic catheter and maintenance
- Tracheostomy Care
- Bowel Evacuation and management
- Key Working/Goal Planning
- Domiciliary Ventilation
- Cough Assist
We are a forward thinking ward and encourage staff development, quality improvement opportunities for staff development and management.
The post holder will provide ongoing education/support to patients and families to enhance their knowledge/understanding managing a spinal cord injury, the post holder will actively take part in education and training for carer’s/families and junior staff.
The successful candidate will be supported through an induction period and have a shadowing opportunity.
Wellbeing of the staff is very important, we offer flexible with working pattern’s 12 hourly or 8 hourly shifts full time and part time posts are to offer. We offer self- rostering adhering to rostering policy.
