The core focus of the role will be upon the psychological assessment and treatment of clients, their families and/or carers referred from GPs and from wider CMHT colleagues, referred as outpatients. This post may also involve inpatient work and involvement in consultation and training with other health/mental health professionals within both a ward setting and in the community; as required. 


  • The Post holder is required to have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical or Counselling Psychology (BPS/HCPC accredited/approved).
  • Registered with the Health Professions Council as a Clinical or Counselling Psychologist (or in the process of Registration).
  • Training in supervision.
  • Evidence of an interest in and experience of working with clients with complex psychological difficulties, with a particular focus on early intervention.
  • Evidence of an interest in and experience of working with clients with severe mental health problems.
  • Have specialist knowledge related to specific area of work,  e.g.  Eating disorders
  • Have knowledge of national and professional guidelines for optimal standards of clinical care e.g. child protection guidelines
  • Have knowledge of psychiatry and other related professions in order to understand complex clinical presentations
  • Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
  • Knowledge of a range of theoretical approaches and applied techniques in working with individuals, groups and wider systems and the ability to apply these in practice.
  • Excellent skills in communicating with patients, referrers, and staff from external agencies.
  • High level skills of consultation to individuals and organisations.
