To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide maternity cover as a specialist physiotherapist in the trauma and orthopaedic clinics within Ninewells Hospital Dundee.  The post holder will provide early intervention physiotherapy input to the virtual, fracture, hand trauma and orthopaedics clinics. Alongside the AHP Trauma and Orthopaedic Lead, they will assess and manage referrals thus reducing the number of patients requiring multiple appointments within Consultant led fracture clinics, nurse led clinics and Physiotherapy Departments.

You should have demonstrable advanced clinical skills/knowledge as evidenced in your CPD portfolio with comprehensible knowledge of best practice / clinical guidelines / pathways and standards across Trauma and Orthopaedics and general MSK presentations.

You should be an experienced musculoskeletal practitioner who will conduct both trauma and orthopaedic specialist clinics in partnership with, and independent of, Consultant and medical staff.  You will perform comprehensive examinations of patients presenting with trauma and complex MSK presentations and make clinical decisions to determine the appropriate pathway for the patient e.g. diagnostics, therapy or surgical interventions. You may carry out or request clinical investigations or examinations from other disciplines in order to complete your examination.

Ongoing personal and professional development is essential to provide a quality service and is supported through CPD workshops, TURAS appraisal, IST and involvement within Tayside Practice Development Group.  You will be an integral part of the Orthopaedic/MSK team with responsibility in teaching both qualified and Student staff and be involved with peer review with Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners and other colleagues.

The Physiotherapy Team is a friendly, supportive and sociable group with strong sense of wellbeing for all.  The service has won national recognition for innovation and service delivery in recent years and strives to deliver the best service possible through expanding skills and knowledge, streamlining service, providing the best possible patient care and encouraging and nurturing the staff group to develop.

There are strong links with universities, providing Physiotherapy student placements mainly from Aberdeen and Edinburgh.
