This is an exciting opportunity within NHS Lothian’s Quality Directorate to work on the introduction, scale up and spread of a Value Management System (VMS) across acute services in NHS Lothian. This post covers the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Western General Hospital and the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for improving the quality of patient care, in line with NHS Lothian’s Quadruple Aim and values. With proven experience in leading person-centred care and change management, you will have a lead role in embedding continuous quality improvement as an integral part of planning and delivery of clinical care and in taking forward quality improvement programmes.

The VMS aims to test and spread an innovative model developed within NHS Highland, and currently being introduced in St. John’s Hospital, that supports clinical, care and finance teams to apply quality improvement methods with combined cost and quality data at team level to deliver improved patient outcomes, experience and value. It links to a collaborative run by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, NHS Education Scotland and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

This system aims to enable teams to be better equipped to quality plan through understanding the needs of the users of their service and what are their key areas for improvement informed by their data, embed processes to understand when they vary from their agreed standards or desired quality and develop the knowledge and skills to apply quality improvement methods to address these.

This post requires strong Quality Improvement science knowledge and practical expertise in the healthcare setting, evidence of QI teaching and coaching, demonstrable cross (NHS) site programme management, and evidence of the use of data and Statistical Process Control., using Microsoft Excel and Word. Developing measurement frameworks, and the production of reports providing feedback on progress, are key functions of this post.

The successful candidate must have well developed interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively and appropriately with staff at all levels within and out with the organisation.  A flexible approach to work and an ability to work well within teams is also essential.
