An opportunity has arisen for a registered nurse with previous post registration experience and a first degree or equivalent to undertake a Trainee District Nurse position and to complete the PgD in Advanced Practice in District Nursing with SPQ. NHS Forth Valley is working with various Higher Education Institutes to offer this training commencing in September 2020. The course is offered on a part-time basis over 2 academic years but would consider 1 year fulltime course.
Candidates should be self-motivated practitioners and able to demonstrate an evidence based approach to practice. The diversity and on-going development of services within primary care requires clinical practitioners that are committed to enhancing their own skills through CPD and a commitment to lifelong learning.
In the practice setting students will be supported by a Clinical Practice Teacher who will help students to develop a programme of learning experiences and who is responsible for assessment of competence. The learning outcomes of the modules are achieved by both university and practice based learning and are assessed by a variety of methods including written assignments, examination and professional portfolios of learning. Students will be required to undertake the V300 Community Nurse Prescribing module, and Advanced Clinical Examination.
If the successful candidate does not complete the course for any reason within the agreed time frame then this would result in a redeployment situation.
The successful candidate will be working as a staff nurse for NHS Forth Valley will be released from their post during university term time for the duration of the programme and their existing job will be kept open for them. Students will be expected to return to their substantive post on days when they are not at university, or on clinical placement, for the remainder of their weekly contracted hours.
Successful candidate’s course fees will be paid by NHS Forth Valley. Student’s will be eligible for travel expenses from clinical placement to clients’ homes or when out on clinical work. Travel expenses to and from the university will not be reimbursed.
The seconded students’ annual leave entitlement will remain the same as that of their substantive posts. Successful candidates will be expected to undertake self directed study in their own time out with the agreed seconded hours in order to complete the programme
