Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) is recruiting an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative nurse to join our dynamic research team.
Research experience is desirable but equivalent clinical experience in relevant disease areas will be accepted. The post holder will be trained and supported to lead a portfolio of research studies within the Respiratory team in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, and provide senior cover, as required, within the team in Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (GCRF).
GCRF supports research in a broad range of clinical specialities, providing a service to local Investigators, of any discipline, to conduct their clinical research safely, efficiently, and effectively.
This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

The Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF) has a worldwide reputation for research. In order to support the expansion of the research portfolio across the facility we continue to develop, working with a variety of specialities to conduct high profile clinical research, It incorporates Clinical Research Facilities at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and the Paediatric Clinical Research Facility. Jointly they provide a streamlined service to investigators to conduct their clinical research efficiently and safely. The post holder will provide regular written and verbal reports on CRF activity and to their line manager. The post-holder will also be the lead nurse on an agreed number of studies, commensurate with their own level of clinical and research experience. The post holder will manage resources to support clinical research activity to meet objectives agreed by Glasgow CRF and Research & Innovation (R&I) senior management team..
You will be a First Level Registered Nurse with relevant clinical experience and educated to (or working towards) degree level. Research experience is highly desirable although transferable skills can be demonstrated. You will work to research principles including confidentiality, randomisation procedures, informed consent and ethical issues, and an understanding of research within the context of the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research and Good Clinical Practice. Attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, good IT skills and a methodical approach are key requirements, along with a proven ability to work independently and as part of a team. The hours of work are predominantly 0830-1630 Monday – Friday but there is a requirement to take a flexible approach in order to meet the needs of research studies, with a requirement to work unsocial hours and weekends as necessary.
Minimal Requirements
- First level registered nurse with significant, current and relevant clinical experience or registered nurse with a strong interest in respiratory medicine.
- Ability to demonstrate competencies in relation to experience with evidence of highly developed clinical and technical skills.
- Experience of working in both academic and commercial research
- Knowledge of current research regulations and governance requirements
- Experience demonstrating the post holder’s ability to lead a clinical research trial or comparable project e.g. Audit or clinical effectiveness, including the management of staff and resources.
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development, educated to degree level (or working towards).
- Experience of working effectively in a multi-disciplinary team with key responsibilities within the team.
- Motivated and able to demonstrate excellent team management skills.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills/ability to work under pressure and prioritise workload across different clinical areas and clinical trials to meet project timelines.
- Ability to learn new skills to meet the requirements of new research projects. Ability to use IT systems proficiently including Microsoft Office, electronic patient management systems and web-based technologies.
- Evidence of highly developed current clinical and technical skills in the clinical setting.
