Job Advert

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the dynamic multidisciplinary Out of Hours Primary Care (GMED) team as a Band 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioners (Paramedic Practitioners and Trainees may be considered).

GMED is an urgent primary care service for those patients who cannot wait until in hours to see their own GP. GMED covers the Grampian region (over 600 000 population) between the hours of 18:00 – 08:00 Monday to Friday and over twenty four hours Saturday and Sunday and Public Holidays. The service is also managing the Grampian Covid Hub.

The service is hosted by Moray H&SC and has 8 bases throughout Grampian which are staffed with Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Paramedic Practitioners, GPs and Drivers who support clinical operations. The main base is situated in the Aberdeen City where the Service Management, Operational & Logistics and Business Teams are based.

In the out of hours period the GMED service also provides direct support, advice and care to partnership professional services and service users including SAS, Police Scotland, Custody Services, Scottish Prison Service, OOH District and Marie Curie Nursing Services, Minor Injury Units, Mental Health Services, NHS 24, Hospital at Home and community hospitals along with direct service to patients with palliative care needs.

We can consider full-time, part-time and bank posts across Grampian. Please also note that the supernumerary period during induction and training will be worked mostly within Aberdeen with experiences in peripheral areas local to substantive base(s).  Hours of work are a mixture of weekday nights and weekend days and nights alongside urgent/unscheduled cover for Elgin Custody Suite from the GMED base in Elgin.

We are keen to hear from prospective applicants with extensive post registration experience, a broad clinical knowledge base and exceptional communication and problem solving skills.  Previous experience of autonomous working in an advanced role within primary or secondary care would be beneficial, and full or part completion of The Robert Gordon University’s or Aberdeen University’s MSc or other recognised Advancing Practice degree, or equivalent, would be an advantage.   Nevertheless, within the Service there is a huge emphasis on support with building upon existing knowledge and experience, as well as continuing professional development; therefore, we would be delighted to hear from the right enthusiastic and highly motivated candidate irrespective of their qualification levels. Full support can be provided for those who have part completion of recognised qualification.

Interviews will be held on 14th October (PM) and 15th October (All day).

Informal visits and enquiries are welcome and encouraged.  GMED ANP Team Lead Wendy Boyle on email wendy.boyle2@nhs.scot
