Do you want to be at the forefront of transforming clinical pharmacy, working with a dynamic team?  Would you like to develop your clinical skills across a range of specialities before deciding in which area to develop advanced practice?

The NHS Fife Pharmacy and Medicines Service is currently transforming its clinical pharmacy service, as an integrated pharmacy service across hospital, primary care and specialist teams, under a new Head of Pharmacy for Integrated Clinical Services. The aim is to join up care for our patients across transitions of care, to ensure the best outcomes for patients with their medicines.

Following additional investment in the pharmacy service, we are developing a new specialist clinical pharmacist rotational programme, with two different rotations, across a number of clinical  specialities.  We have THREE vacancies for specialist clinical pharmacists to join this programme, and gain experience mainly within a hospital setting, with some opportunity for out-patient or primary care experience.  Each part of the rotation would be approx 9 months and will initially include the following areas:

Rotation 1

1.    Critical Care
2.    Rheumatology (out-patient service)
3.    Surgical and acute/ chronic pain
4.    Aseptic/ cancer services

Rotation 2
1.    Cardiology
2.    Medicines for Elderly/ Hospital at Home service
3.    Admissions Unit
4.    Primary Care (optional- depending on previous primary care experience)

This programme is mainly based in Kirkcaldy, with some rotations in Dunfermline area.

You will be working as a team of specialist pharmacists, supported by pharmacy technicians, foundation pharmacists and advanced senior clinical pharmacists, under the leadership of our Lead Clinical Pharmacists.  You will be supported to complete a relevant post graduate framework and train as an independent prescriber.

Applications are welcomed from pharmacists who are passionate about patient care and are keen to develop their clinical experience across a range of settings. Previous hospital experience is not essential as training and support will be given.

NHS Fife Pharmacy service serves a population of approximately 380,000 people, and is provided by an integrated team of around 200 Pharmacy staff, including Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Support Workers, Nurses, and Administrators. The team work across Acute and Community hospital sites, General Practices, Mental Health services, and a range of specialist teams. Partnership working is at the core of our values, and we work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, including our Community Pharmacy colleagues, to deliver the highest quality care for everyone in Fife.

Our Pharmacy Senior Leadership Team is committed to supporting our staff to develop and feel valued. We hold monthly staff briefing sessions to update staff on progress with our service, to showcase the work of specific teams within the service, and to celebrate our “Pharmacy Heroes”.  There are also opportunities to become involved in a range of projects across the integrated Pharmacy service, as well as shaping the future vision for the service
