Post: Infant Feeding Advisor

The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.

The post-holder will work within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Team which is hosted within Public Health and Health Policy.  The Maternal and Infant Nutrition team works with frontline staff across Neonatal, Maternity, Family Nursing and Health Visiting services to enhance their skills and knowledge around infant feeding. We support them to support all mothers and parents during pregnancy and throughout early parenthood, regardless of how they feed their child, to have close and loving relationships with their baby by embedding the concept of responsive feeding.

The post holder will be responsible for working with key stakeholders across Lothian to implement and evaluate a maternal and infant nutrition focused public health work plan.   


0.5wte Infant feeding advisor (Band 6):

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NHS Lothian’s Public Health Department as an Infant Feeding Advisor within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Service. The post holder will work with the existing Infant Feeding Advisors within maternity services to lead the work around Unicef Accreditation and reducing the drop off in breastfeeding at 6-8 weeks.  The successful post holder will work with acute NHS staff as well as providing direct care for mothers and infants within the breastfeeding support clinic. 

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
