The Role

We are looking to recruit a Senior Advanced Clinical Practitioner/Trainee to join the Emergency Department at University Hospital Monklands!

The successful candidate will work as a senior advanced practitioner responsible for providing advanced clinical care and management of both the stable and acutely unwell patients and his/her family, making complex, autonomous decisions using advanced skills and knowledge. They will have overall responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the delivery of advanced care. The post holder will be an experienced clinician, who acting within their professional boundaries will provide care for the presenting patient from initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. The senior advanced practitioner must demonstrate competence within all four pillars of advanced practice and make professional, autonomous decisions for which he/she is accountable.

The post holder will provide the assessment, examination, diagnosis, management and treatment initiation to a range of adults and /or children.

As a senior clinician within the department the senior advanced practitioner will also play an important part in leadership and teaching for both AHP, nursing and medical staff. The post holder will provide leadership, clinical support and advice  to AHP, nursing and junior medical staff, making appropriate referrals to, and co-ordinating the contribution of other members of the multi-professional team as well as providing specialist education, training to nurses, AHP’s, students and junior medical staff,

The successful candidate will commit to demonstrating critical thinking whilst providing safe, competent clinical decision-making skills. In order to work at this level, HCPC/NMC / GPHC requirements for advanced practice must be met.  The senior advanced practitioner will provide direct patient management in collaboration and consultation with departmental consultants / General Practitioners.


Annex 21

Applicants who do not meet the essential criteria will be considered under the Annex 21 training programme, where whilst undergoing training they will be paid a % of the top of Band X and on completion of training will then move on to Band X scale

What we'll need you to bring

  • Registered Nurse /AHP or Pharmacist with a valid NMC/ HCPC / GPhC registration.
  • Completion of Post Graduate Diploma (Masters) in Advanced Practice with evidence of finalising Masters Degree i.e post holder is undertaking the last module of a Masters Degree which is the research dissertation.
  • Independent prescriber.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of NHS Scotland leadership qualities framework or equivalent framework
  • Management knowledge gained through experience and continuous professional development
  • Evidence of facilitating learning and teaching 
  • Professional, leadership and managerial experience within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently. 
  • Extensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within areas of expertise.
  • Experience of assessing training needs
  • Experience of resource management (Financial, Human and Capital
  • Knowledge and experience of needs assessment and analysis/interpretation of related data
  • Evidence of sound and effective leadership. Ability to think strategically, and lead a team
  • Evidence of developing innovative solutions in meeting organisational requirements and motivating staff to affect change.
  • Evidence of developing teams/services and integrated solutions to complex and challenging problems.
  • Experience of appropriate advanced practitioner programme and evidence of completion of advanced practice competency

It would be great if you also have:

  • ALS Provider / Instructor
  • Non-medical Prescriber
  • Experience in delivering education / training.
  • Quality improvement qualification
  • Understanding of clinical management pathways
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding of quality improvement / research and audit.
  • Advanced Assessment skills.
  • Evidence of practicing advanced clinical skills (NIV/ ECG interpretation/ABG etc)
