The Post:

We are the leading provider of Data Services and Advanced Analytics within the public sector in Scotland. The Data and Analytics Service is a dedicated team of professionals that design, develop, and support integrated data and analytical platforms for NHS Scotland. Our work underpins Scotland’s reputation as a world leader in health informatics.

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic data and advanced analytics professionals with substantial experience in a senior technical role, to join our team as Senior Technical Consultants.

We are recruiting for two roles with different job profiles:

  • Senior Technical Consultant: Technical lead in the delivery of our data and analytical products (x4).
  • Senior Technical Consultant (Business Objects): Senior technical authority for our SAP Business Objects (BO) estate (x1).

These are critical roles in supporting the strategic direction for better use of data to support service delivery and outcomes across Scotland. 

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Leading the architecture, design, development, and implementation of innovative data, BI, and analytics solutions OR, supporting the architecture, design, development, and implementation of innovative data, BI, and analytics solutions through provisioning our Business Objects server estate. 
  • Making key design and engineering decisions and assessing and managing the risk involved.
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to technical delivery teams. 
  • Ensuring quality of developments, and smooth transition to BAU. 
  • Ownership of design and development processes and standards. 
  • Pro-actively contributing to technical strategy and service improvement. 
  • Stakeholder and user engagement. 
  • Assessing, scoping and estimating demand. 

The Candidate:

You will bring the following to the team:

For the Business Objects role:

  • Demonstrable experience of planning and leading the design, development, and implementation of innovative data, BI, and analytics solutions 
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of SAP Business Objects including management and administration, supported by knowledge of Data Solutions Architecture and building of data products (incl. ETL/ELT)

For the Product Delivery role:

  • Demonstrable experience of planning and leading the design, development and implementation of innovative data, BI, and analytics solutions 
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of Data Solutions Architecture 
  • Thorough knowledge of building data products (incl. ETL/ELT) 

For both roles:

  • Technical Leadership experience, including strong and effective communication skills, and stakeholder engagement and management skills. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Passion to make a difference.
  • Desire to excel within a high performing team. 
  • Appetite for lifelong learning and growth.  
  • Ability to constructively challenge, and to confidently lead the overall success of a service. 
  • Interested in a wide range of topics with willingness to dive deeper into the detail when required. 
  • Desire to support, mentor, and develop other members of the team.

Location and Working Pattern:

This post can be based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours - hybrid working options available.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
