Western Isles is looking for a Public Health Intelligence Analyst to join our small but established Intelligence & Information Services team. This is a unique opportunity to apply your analytical expertise in a role that directly supports better outcomes for our island communities.
What’s the role about?
You’ll play a central role in delivering high-quality analysis to support public health priorities. Your day-to-day work will involve exploring complex datasets, uncovering trends, and producing meaningful insights that inform decision-making. Whether analysing substance use patterns for the Outer Hebrides Alcohol and Drug Partnership, evaluating screening programme performance, or generating reports for clinical networks and external stakeholders, your analytical expertise will be at the heart of evidence-based planning.
Expect to be hands-on with data: collecting, preparing, interpreting, and presenting it in ways that inform decision-making. Whether it’s performance monitoring or strategic planning, your input will help drive health improvement initiatives across the Western Isles.
What you’ll bring
- A relevant qualification in a field such as Public Health, Informatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or equivalent experience in a data-focused role.
- A strong understanding of statistical techniques and epidemiological methods.
- Proficiency in SQL and experience working with data from clinical and public health systems.
- Familiarity of using and be able to develop with business intelligence tools (e.g. QlikView, Power BI, SSRS, Business Objects).
- An ability to communicate insights clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A collaborative approach and confidence to work across internal teams and external organisations.
Experience in health or social care is a definite advantage, especially if you’ve worked in a reporting or systems analysis role.
Why NHS Western Isles?
We offer more than just a job. You’ll be part of a friendly, collaborative team that values professional development and continuous learning. You’ll be supported to grow your technical and analytical skills while working in a role that’s meaningful and mission driven.
Our hospital is modern and welcoming, with an on-site restaurant and free parking. Beyond the office, you’ll enjoy the unique lifestyle and landscape of the Outer Hebrides.
