ISLE OF BARRA

Public Dental Officer

PDO £54,117 - £81,174 (pro rata)

Plus Distant Islands Allowance £1,406 pro rata

Permanent post

NHS Western Isles are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated dentist to join the Public Dental Service team. The successful candidate would be expected to be based on the renowned Island of Barra, which boasts an idyllic lifestyle of beaches and serenity.

Whilst the successful candidate would be based in Barra as a part time position, additional commitments to other areas can be made available depending on the clinical commitment of the successful applicant. Any clinics which would require the post holder to travel or require accommodation away from their base, expenses would be covered. The role includes providing dental care for priority group patients, particularly children and adult patients who require additional support.

Working within well-equipped surgeries, you will enjoy access to newly upgraded facilities as well as the professional support of colleagues. There are great opportunities for professional development through the diversity of the patient base, formal training and courses, as well as growth through peer review and the support of the existing experienced and friendly team.

Successful applicants will provide dental care provision not only in the static clinical environment but also in care home and other domiciliary type settings and will therefore require the clinical skills and competency necessary to deliver a range of treatments within a sometimes-challenging environment to patients who may have additional and complex needs. The post holder will be expected to participate in the provision of out of hours care on a rotational basis with colleagues.

Given the updated PCA(D)(2024)1 regarding the Recruitment and Retention Allowance update as of 1st April 2024, consideration will be given to candidates who require flexibility to working patterns.

This position is eligible for:

  • Distant Islands Allowance of £1,406 per annum (pro rata)
  • Remote Areas Allowance of £4,500 - £9000 per annum (pro rata)
  • Recruitment and Retention Allowance of £25,000 paid over 2 years (subject to eligibility as set out in PCA (D) (2024)1
  • Out-of-Hours Allowance & on-call payment (for participation in on-call duties)
  • Up to 33 days annual leave per annum plus 8 public holidays (depending on NHS service)

The successful applicant will be required to register with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme). This post is not eligible for relocation expenses.
