Job Advert

University Hospital Monklands (UHM) is looking to appoint an enthusiastic Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology to join our existing team of five Consultants. The diabetes and endocrine department at UHM offers good supportive colleagues who work as a team collaboratively both for out-patient specialty work and in-patient care of patients in a dedicated ward area. The post is supported by a multidisciplinary team including diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians and podiatrists for diabetes work and an endocrine specialist nurse.

Out-patient specialty work takes place within the David Matthews Diabetes Centre on the UHM site and endocrine specialty work is supported by close links with specialty services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

The successful applicant will participate in on-call duties for medicine on equal basis as other department of medicine consultants which include the Physician of the day receiving rota and 2nd on-call weekend cover. All physicians at UHM also currently support acute medicine Monday to Friday (8-4pm) in a Physician of the week role, currently twice per annum. During these weeks other clinical duties are cancelled.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals keen to contribute to ongoing service development.  Sub-specialty clinical interest would be welcomed and supported.

It is an exciting time to join UHM with the location of our new hospital now identified, and scheduled to open in 2026/27.  This brand new state of the art facility and smart campus will be the digital flagship for acute healthcare within NHS Scotland. All clinical staff are actively encouraged to contribute to the planning of clinical models to support this.
